A Kingdom of Well-Behaved Paupers (a poem)
Mar 2, 2021
Roll an elephant
down a hill
just to fetch
a pail
of water.
While the monkey chases
the ghost of a weasel
around
and around
and around.
The berries plucked
from the mulberry bush
are spoiled and rotten
from time.
But nobody notices.
Nobody cares.
They’ll eat poison if
you tell them it’s wine.
