CABBAGE (A Poem)

Unto the darkness, the ego expands.
Filling jars with hope and desire.
A wolf at the door, draped in sheep’s clothing.
The skin of its meal its disguise.

No matter the distance, the expansion of time.
Sending a message through space

Stars and rockets.
Flames and propulsion.
Lost beneath bouquets long forgotten.

Where once roamed buffalo, now roam the streets.
Paved over history erased.

Cornfields and drudgery, packaged with bows.
Sailing on seas of chilled dreams.

Once upon a time.

Once upon a memory.

Lustful abandon engulfs the soul.

POUR ONE OUT FOR THE MASTER.

Drink it in, the wholeness of milk.
Borne of the breast of a maiden.

She dances at night
‘neath the cast of a moon
made of cheese chased with wine and wise rats.

Swallow, swallow, swallow it down.
Your pride and your self and your hate.

That which becomes that which was.
Forever ensnared in a lie.

A lie made of truth
on a house built of cards.
It tumbles and stumbles like life.

Open the windows, the souls of your eyes
and venture deep into the night.
