A HERD A FLOCK A MURMURATION A MURDER

Forty-seven mynah birds lined up in a row.

Blocking the path to the place I wish to go.

Do I cross them?

Do I break the chain?

Each and every one of them

Different but the same.

Here and now boys

here and now.

They scream

they squawk

they chirp

they howl.

Step ahead cautiously, prepared to run and flee

And the flock of feathered warning parts like Moses’s Red Sea.
