Silence. Deathly silence.
And light from every direction.
No shadows. No footfalls. No screams and no shouts.
Just a room with a simple oak table.
And on that table, a box with a lock.
With the word “TRUTH” inscribed on its lid.
I tear open my chest. Pull my ribs apart.
And pluck the key from my heart.
A perfect fit. A click and a pop.
Shall I become Pandora?
My world has all burned, to find this small trinket.
I have no place else to go.
I lift the lid and find hidden inside, a billion scraps of white paper.
With one simple word on them.
Each of them “lies.”
I become a small mouse.
Crawl deep inside.
Close the lid.
Make a nest.
And I sleep.
