I’ve been experimenting with serial fiction throughout the pandemic, but in a somewhat different way. The version I’m doing (titled Calibration 74) is being written in serial manner, but WITHOUT much explicit planning or arcs etc.

By publishing as I write, I’m forcing myself to focus on flow … as well as commit to what was put down previously.

What’s written is permanent, which means I must continue from where I left off, making the story completely organic.

It’s been a very useful and enlightening project so far, and the story has evolved into something that now has a clear vision culminating in what I believe will be a valid and satisfying ending.

Long story short, I absolutely encourage trying serial fiction if you’re looking for ways to exercise some writing muscles you may not have realized were even there.
